Vice Mayor, Long Beach City Council 6th District
Dee has served as the City Councilman of the Sixth District for eleven years. He was elected in 2007 in a special election and later re-elected to office in 2008 and 2012. Dee won his third term as a write-in candidate in the 2016 primary election. He has lived in the Central Long Beach area since the age of 5 and is well known throughout the district he so lovingly represents and calls home. Dee is a very proud graduate and former athlete of Poly High School, and California State University Long Beach (CSULB), where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences and Physical Education. After his short time in the NFL, Dee returned to Long Beach, teaching Black History and Government at Long Beach Poly and Wilson High Schools. He was later employed as a Court Liaison, mentoring young people in their reintegration from juvenile camp, back to school, and on a different path. Dee has brought forth many innovative developments and programs to the Sixth District, geared towards uplifting and engaging the community. Known as the “Son of the Sixth” by its residents, Mr. Andrews’ passion for making a difference in his community is the reason he won as a write-in candidate in a primary election with over 51% of the 6th District vote. Dee was also inducted in the LBCC Hall of Champions in 2003.
