Arturo Garcia
Assistant Professor, Psychology
I am excited to be part of the full-time faculty in LBCC’s
psychology program. My life’s mission is to mentor and train the
next generation of diverse practitioners & researchers in
psychology. I am very passionate about promoting critical
thinking and evidence-based psychological practices. If you’re a
student in my class, know that I believe in your ability to
succeed!
Professional Background: My practical experiences in psychology
includes serving as a school psychologist from 2014 to 2024. In
this role, I supported students in K-12 settings by facilitating
the solving of academic, behavioral and socio-emotional problems.
I thrived in creating programs that systematically screened for
academic challenges and subsequently made supports available. I
enjoyed my work as a school psychologist because I believe there
is no better place to provide equitable access to mental health
services in our country than the public school systems.
Community Outreach: I have twice interviewed on NPR’s Airtalk
show in Los Angeles, where I have advocated for mental health
services provided through our public schools. I have also
publicly interviewed with Psi Beta to promote the profession of
school psychology. I am always excited to do any outreach that
helps promote mental health access!
Teaching Experience: I have taught 9 different courses in
psychology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels since
2015. The courses I have taught are largely related to my
graduate work in psychological research, behavioral neuroscience
and school psychology. Notably, my research experiences are also
in these broad areas of psychology.
Seek me out for chat if you have any interest in educational
psychology, school psychology, behavior or addiction studies. I
love talking shop!
