Long Beach City College will expand its accelerated 8-week-course
offerings starting in Fall 2024. The 8-week-course accelerated
program format is part of an effort to help students balancing
college with work and family obligations.
The intensive 8-week-course covers the same content as a
traditional 16-week course but in half the time. These
accelerated classes will meet more often allowing students to
complete the coursework in eight weeks. LBCC is devoted to
finding equity-based solutions for student success.
There are several reasons why students may be interested in the
8-week-course accelerated program:
Students can take two to three classes at a time, earning the
same number of credits in a semester which provides more
opportunities to start classes
Students are less likely to have conflicts since class is a
shorter eight-week term
Students can avoid being burnt out with fewer assignments and
deadlines to juggle over the eight-week term
Students receive intensive class contact time over the
shorter period, developing a stronger relationship with other
students and instructors
