Long Beach City College is proud to recognize employees whose dedication, innovation, and service strengthen our college community and advance student success. The Employee Recognition Program celebrates individuals who embody LBCC’s values and contribute to our mission in meaningful ways. 

BeLonging Builder

• BeLonging Builder is LBCC’s colleague recognition program that celebrates employees who foster a welcoming, inclusive, and connected campus by going above and beyond to help others feel they BeLong.

Campus Awards

LBCC recognizes excellence across a variety of roles and contributions through the following campus awards. 

Information regarding the nomination & selection process, eligibility requirements, and timeline will be available by December 2026. 

Teaching Excellence Award 

Recognizes faculty who demonstrate outstanding teaching practices that advance student learning, equity, engagement, and success. Nominees may exemplify innovative pedagogy, inclusive and equitable classroom practices, and meaningful contributions to the academic experience of LBCC students. 

Student Advocate Award 

Recognizes employees who go above and beyond to support student success by removing barriers, fostering belonging, and connecting students to resources. While equity-centered service is an important consideration, this award broadly honors individuals whose work meaningfully improves the student experience at LBCC. 

Institutional Excellence Award 

Recognizes employees who make exceptional behind-the-scenes contributions that strengthen the college’s ability to fulfill its mission. Though recipients may not interact directly with students, their work supports the operations, culture, research, and integrity of LBCC, helping the entire college community thrive. 

Classified Employee of the Year 

Classified Employee of the Year recognizes exemplary performance, leadership, and dedication among classified professionals whose work significantly advances LBCC’s mission and goals. 

League Excellence Award 

League Excellence Award celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to LBCC through leadership, innovation, collaboration, and service, embodying the spirit of institutional excellence. 

Years of Service Awards 

The Years of Service Awards honor employees for their long-standing commitment and valuable contributions to Long Beach City College. These recognitions celebrate milestone years of service and acknowledge the dedication and impact of employees throughout their careers at LBCC. 

Legacy Awards

The following awards represent former employee recognition programs that are no longer active. They remain part of LBCC’s recognition history. 

• Viking Impact Award: Recognized individuals who made a significant positive impact on the LBCC community through leadership, service, and dedication. 
• Excellent in Online Teaching Award: Recognized faculty who demonstrated innovation, effectiveness, and excellence in online teaching, enhancing the learning experience for LBCC students.
