Bhagirathi Anand
Professor, Math & Engineering
My students call me Prof. Anand, and my friends & family call me Bhagi. I’m the wife of an IT consultant, and a proud mother of two – a Biomedical Engineer and the other a furry four-legged Samoyed named Simba.
I started my teaching career in Mathematics in Chennai, India, more than 30 years ago, and have been with LBCC since 2004. My passion for teaching, however, goes back well before that time, when I regularly play-acted the role of a ‘strict teacher’ amongst my ‘student’ friends. It wasn’t long after that I found myself graduating with a double master’s degree in Mathematics.
During my free time, I enjoy and teach Indian Classical music, cooking, going for long walks with my husband, watching comedy shows, and last but not least, spending time with my pride & joy – Simba.
A few of my favorites things: home-cooked Indian food, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Simpsons. I also love taking vacations in Hawaii, virgin margaritas, and am a diehard Lakers fan!
The last thing you need to know about me – I ultimately enjoy teaching because of you, My Students. I enjoy meeting each and every one of you, and watching you succeed gives me joy I need to do it all over again. In one episode of The Simpsons, Lisa expounds on the intricacies of ‘pi’ to her father Homer who is conjuring up visions of a succulent ‘pie’. Both ‘pi’ and ‘pie’ are equally important and what you focus on as a student comes down to your ‘priorities’! Should you ever have any questions, or just want to have a conversation, know that I am here for you, and just a knock away.
