Juan Flores-Zamora, Ed.D.
Professor, Engineering Technology
Hello! I’m Dr. Juan Flores-Zamora, a proud professor of Engineering Technology at Long Beach City College. I’m here to help students transform their potential into power, through real-world engineering skills, community support, and a clear pathway to career success or transfer to four-year universities.
With over 15 years of experience in education and a strong background in the aerospace industry, I bring both technical expertise and a deep commitment to student success into every class I teach. Before becoming an educator, I helped build satellites at Northrop Grumman and manufactured components for Boeing and Airbus through various subcontractors. That experience grounds my teaching in what truly matters for today’s workforce; precision, creativity, and problem-solving.
I earned my CNC Machining Certificate from Los Angeles Trade Technical College, followed by a B.S. in Industrial Technology and an M.A. in Industrial and Technical Studies from Cal State LA. In 2020, I completed my Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) at the University of Southern California, focusing on equity, career technical education, and student achievement in STEM.
At LBCC, I serve as faculty advisor to several dynamic student organizations that are shaping the future of engineering:
- The Engineering Club
- Society of Women Engineers (SWE)
- National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)
- Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE)
These clubs provide hands-on project experience, leadership development, peer mentorship, and direct links to national conferences and industry connections. We design. We build. We lead. And we grow together.
As one of the few tenured Native/Latino engineering professors in the country, I believe in creating spaces where all students feel seen, supported, and ready to lead. Representation matters, and I’m proud to help build a more inclusive and innovative future in STEM.
Outside the classroom, I enjoy staying active, going to Dodgers games, scuba diving, sailing, and spending time with my daughter; my greatest source of inspiration and joy.
Join us. Let’s engineer a better future, together.
Fight On!
