COVID-19 Update: Summer Session Update, Spring Break, Cleaning of LBCC Buildings
Faculty & Staff
Here is your COVID-19 update.
LBCC Summer Session to be Remote Instruction
Long Beach City College has announced that the Summer 2020 sessions (including the second five week session) will be held remotely. Some face-to-face classes might be added if possible, at a later date. Deans and Department Heads are currently working with faculty to revise the summer schedule, and the revised version will be made available on the website this Thursday. Registration for Summer will begin April 27.
Spring Break is April 6 – 10
Next week is LBCC’s normally scheduled Spring break. These are non-instructional days in which remote/online student work should not be due. Faculty may want to suggest that students use a portion of that week to get caught up, but there should not be a requirement for work to be submitted until after the break.
Deep Cleaning LBCC Buildings
During the campus closure, Facilities staff is busy deep cleaning all buildings so that all students, faculty, and staff will return to a sanitized and safe environment when LBCC re-opens. Facilities also will be disposing of any food that is left out in offices, classrooms, kitchens, or other spaces to prevent potential pest issues.
Internet Provider Expanding Offers to College Professors
Charter Communications has expanded the eligibility for its 60-day free offer for Spectrum Broadband Internet and Wi-Fi access to include educators (K-12 teachers and College/University professors) who do not already have a Spectrum account. Educators, who live in a Spectrum market and do not currently have broadband, should contact Spectrum at (844) 488-8395 to sign up. A free self-installation kit will be provided to new student and educator households.
Deadlines and Refund Questions
We are aware that your students are probably asking about changes in refund policy, deadlines to withdrawal, commencement, etc. Administration is working with the Chancellor’s Office and within their departments to formulate responses and action. Details will be announced as soon as possible.
