What is Handshake?
Handshake is Long Beach City College’s official online career platform that helps students explore jobs, internships, and career opportunities all in one place.
LBCC has partnered with Handshake, connecting you with employers who are specifically interested in hiring community college students and recent graduates. The platform uses your major, interests, and skills to recommend relevant opportunities, making it easier to find jobs that align with your career goals.
With Handshake, you can:
- Build your profile to highlight your experience, skills, and interests
- Search and apply for part-time jobs, internships, and full-time roles
- Connect with employers across a wide range of industries
- Review collections for featured employers and opportunities
- Access career events, info sessions, and employer workshops
Handshake is designed to support you at every stage of your career journey from exploring options while in school to landing your first job after graduation. Log in regularly to stay up to date on new opportunities and take advantage of career resources available to you as an LBCC student.
Getting Started on Handshake
Every student at LBCC has a Handshake account. Log in to claim your account in one of two ways:
Starting from the Viking Portal: https://lbcc.onbio-key.com/sso
- Log in to your Viking Portal with your Single Sign-On (SSO)
- Find and click Handshake in My Apps
- Create your Handshake profile as directed
Starting from Handshake’s Login Page: https://lbcc.joinhandshake.com/
- Enter your LBCC student email (…@lbcc.edu), or search for “Long Beach City College”
- Click the button “Long Beach City College Sign On”
- Claim your Handshake account via LBCC’s Single Sign-On (SSO) process
- Create your Handshake profile as directed

How We Work Together on Handshake
- The Career Center leads student education, onboarding, and engagement on Handshake
- Workforce Development leads employer marketing, opportunity promotion, and placement services
- Both departments collaborate on campus-wide messaging so students understand how and why to use Handshake

Workforce Development: Connecting You to Employers & Opportunities
Workforce Development focuses on employer partnerships, job placement, and industry-specific opportunities. Think of Workforce Development as your connector they bring employers and real opportunities to you.
What Workforce Development helps with:
- Connecting students to jobs, internships, apprenticeships, and paid training
- Partnering with employers across high-demand industries
- Hosting employer info sessions, hiring events, and industry panels
- Supporting students placed into workforce programs
- Gathering data to improve job and training opportunities
How Handshake fits in:
Workforce Development Job Development Coordinators (JDCs) will:
- Use Handshake to post jobs and opportunities from employer partners
- Curate custom employer collections by industry or sector
- Promote hiring needs, internships, and apprenticeships
- Market employer and industry events through Handshake
- Support placement and follow-up once students apply or are hired
