Long Beach City College partners with Handshake, our official online career and recruiting platform, to connect employers and community partners with LBCC students and recent graduates. 

Handshake is a free, all-in-one early talent recruiting platform that allows employers to post jobs, internships, and work-based learning opportunities directly to students who are actively preparing for the workforce. Through Handshake, employers can reach LBCC students across a wide range of academic programs and career interests. 

LBCC’s Career Center and Workforce Development teams collaborate to ensure employers receive meaningful engagement and access to prepared, motivated candidates. 

How can employers and partners benefit from Handshake at LBCC? 

  • Post jobs, internships, and work-based learning opportunities 
  • Promote hiring needs and events to target student audiences

Getting Started on Handshake

Setting up an employer account on Handshake is free and easy.  

Create an Employer Account

Follow the directions here, or navigate to the step-by-step instructions below. 

  1. Sign up to create an employer account: https://joinhandshake.com/employers/ 
  2. Create your Handshake profile as directed 
  3. Review Handshake’s employer guidelines 
  4. Confirm your Handshake account via email 
    • Didn’t receive a confirmation email? 
      *It may take up to 10 minutes to appear in your inbox 
      *Check your spam folder
      *Add handshake@m.joinhandshake.com to your contacts 
  5. Find and join your company, or create a new company profile 
  6. Request “Long Beach City College” as your school 
    • Click “Schools” from the left navigation bar 
    • Click “More Schools on Handshake” 
    • Search for specific schools, or use the filters to customize your results 

Create Job Postings

Follow the directions here, or navigate to the step-by-step instructions below.   

  1. Log into your Handshake employer account: https://app.joinhandshake.com/ 
  2. On the Homepage’s navigation bar, click “Post a Job” 
  3. Complete the required information 
    • Basics 
    • Details 
    • Preferences 
    • Schools* 
      *Choose the college(s) you want the job to be posted. 
      *For example, search and select “Long Beach City College” 
      *Enter a closing date 
  4. Click “Next” to view and approve the preview page

Step 1: Connect with LBCC 

Employers and community partners begin by connecting with Workforce Development and creating a free employer account on Handshake. 

  • Meet with a Workforce Development representative to discuss your hiring needs 
  • Identify opportunities for jobs, internships, apprenticeships, or work-based learning 
  • Learn how Handshake can support your recruiting goals

Workforce Development serves as your primary point of contact. 

Step 2: Post & Promote Opportunities 

Once connected, Workforce Development helps you share your opportunities with LBCC students. 

  • Post jobs, internships, apprenticeships, and training opportunities on Handshake 
  • Get support with writing effective job postings 
  • Promote opportunities to targeted student audiences 
  • Feature your organization in industry- or sector-specific employer collections 

Handshake ensures your opportunities reach students who are prepared and interested. 

Step 3: Engage with Students 

Employers can actively engage with students through events and direct outreach. 

  • Host info sessions, hiring events, or industry panels 
  • Participate in career fairs and recruitment events 
  • Connect with students interested in your industry or roles 

We help coordinate engagement, so your time is used effectively. 

Step 4: Hire & Place Talent (Optional) 

Workforce Development supports the hiring and placement process. 

  • Review applications and connect with qualified candidates 
  • Coordinate interviews and hiring timelines 
  • Receive support during student onboarding or placement into workforce programs 

Our goal is to make hiring efficient and successful for both employers and students. 

Step 5: Build a Long-Term Partnership 

After placement, Workforce Development continues to support your organization. 

  • Follow up on hires and placement outcomes 
  • Gather feedback to improve future recruiting efforts 
  • Explore deeper partnerships, such as: 
    • Internships and apprenticeships 
    • Industry-aligned training programs 
    • Advisory roles or ongoing recruitment pipelines
