About the Department
Exercise, physical activity, health, and sports: Whether
competitive or recreational, choosing a class or a major, this
department is about movement, health, and wellness. The
Department of Kinesiology and Health students are provided
interdisciplinary training in the science of human movement,
health promotion, the study of exercise, and public health
practice. Kinesiology and Health courses
include fitness and conditioning, adapted physical education,
physical activity courses, first aid, contemporary health
studies, coaching and officiating, and other professional
training.
The department offers multiple associate degrees and certificates
that provide a broad array of professional possibilities for
transfer to four-year institutions, to enter the workforce, or
move up the professional ladder. The Kinesiology and Health
Department prepares students to be physical activity
specialists or community health educators who pursue
careers in biomedical settings (e.g. health clubs, rehabilitative
exercise centers, hospitals, worksite wellness programs);
educational settings (e.g. K-12 schools, higher
education); and community service agencies (e.g.
YMCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, non-profit organizations,
neighborhood recreation centers, community clinics).
