Who is Eligible for the Honors Program?

Anyone can apply to the Honors Program at any time after they apply to LBCC if they meet the eligibility requirements. These include having a high school diploma or equivalent, being at least 18 years old, or being a minor enrolled through Dual Enrollment or Credit-by-Exam.

All Applicants

  • Must have a GPA of at least 3.25.
  • Must submit an unofficial copy of current transcripts from any institution other than LBCC to honors@lbcc.edu. If you are applying with fewer than 9 graded units from LBCC, please also submit your unofficial high school transcripts.
  • For students with a GPA below 3.25, recommendations (using our online form) from two academic instructors will enhance your application.

Current High School Students Applying for Fall Admission

  • Admission is based on unweighted GPA.
  • Students with an Advanced Placement (AP) test score of 3, 4, or 5 in English Language & Composition or English Literature & Composition will be eligible for English C1001H (formerly English 3H) and should apply. Must email an unofficial copy of your AP Student Score Report (with your name on it) to honors@lbcc.edu.
  • Students who have completed high school honors programs at Long Beach Unified High Schools (e.g. Distinguished Scholars, Pace, Quest, Merit Scholars, or University Scholars) should indicate this accomplishment on their applications. 

Current High School Students Who Wish to Take LBCC Classes While Enrolled in High School

New LBCC Students

If you are applying to the Honors Program with fewer than 9 graded units from LBCC, please also submit your unofficial high school transcripts.
