CPL Apply
Welcome
Applying to get Credit for Prior Learning is different based upon the type of CPL. But make sure you are aware of the important dates before you start. And make sure that the type of CPL is applicable to the course you need. You can do this by checking the course list.
Standardized Exams (AP, IB, or CLEP)
For AP exams, students can check the CPL course list or the current LBCC AP Chart.
Students must use the College Board website to send their scores directly to LBCC (code 4388). If High School Students send their score prior to June 20th of their senior year, it is free. Anything afterwards will cost them $15 for standard and $25 for expedited.
Then students must make an appointment with an LBCC counselor to discuss how AP scores apply towards their educational objective and determine placement.
Veterans
Veterans who want their Joint Services Transcript evaluated for credit should check the CPL course list and contact LBCC Veterans Services.
Professional Certifications and Licenses
Students who have professional certifications and licenses that they would like college credit for should first check the CPL course list and see if their credentials are listed. If they are not, reach out to the Credit for Prior Learning coordinator to see if your certificate can be added. If your credential is listed, you can apply here
Non-credit Training
Students who have completed non-credit training through community colleges, local workforce development organizations, or local on the job trainings that they would like college credit for should first check the CPL course list and see if their training is listed. If it is not, reach out to the Credit for Prior Learning coordinator at cpl@lbcc.edu to see if your certificate can be added. If your credential is listed, you can apply here
Credit by Exam
Credit by exam is a unique process for students to demonstrate mastery of a course by passing an exam created by faculty experts. Students who have work or life experience may be allowed to take credit by exam, but it is not available to all students and the qualifications to take the exam are determined by faculty.
If you are an LBCC student that feels they could complete credit by exam first check the CPL course list at https://www.lbcc.edu/cpl-course-list/ and see if it is available for that course. You can then apply here
Portfolio Assessment
Students may have work or life experience that already shows mastery of LBCC course outcomes. This may include performance or visual art or other areas where they could have a lifetime of documented achievements. In this case portfolio assessment may be appropriate for CPL.
If you are an LBCC student that feels they would qualify first check the CPL course list and see if portfolio assessment is available for that course. You can then apply here
