Long Beach City College (LBCC) celebrated the renaming of Lew Davis Street to Beverly O’Neill Way during a fundraising dinner on Thursday, October 1, at the Liberal Arts Campus. The renaming honors O’Neill’s legacy as a former LBCC Superintendent-President and three-term Mayor of the City of Long Beach, recognizing her decades of leadership and public service to the college and the greater Long Beach community.

Long Beach City College (LBCC) Superintendent-President Dr. Mike Muñoz has been selected to receive the 2026 National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region VI President’s Award, which recognizes a college or university president or chancellor who has demonstrated a sustained commitment to advancing the quality of student life through support of student affairs staff and initiatives.
Long Beach City College Breaks Ground on Veterans Memorial Stadium Transformation
New $250 Million Complex to Commemorate Iconic Stadium While Providing State-of-the-Art Facilities for Generations of Student-Athletes and the Community
Long Beach City College (LBCC) held a groundbreaking ceremony today for its new $250 million Stadium and Athletic Sports Complex, a transformative project that will honor the legacy of Veterans Memorial Stadium while creating state-of-the-art athletic facilities for generations of student-athletes and the region.
“Veterans Memorial Stadium has been part of our community’s fabric for more than 75 years, and as a former Viking football player, I know how personal this place is to so many of us,” said Uduak-Joe Ntuk, President of the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees. “It has served as a gathering place for students, families, athletes, veterans, and the broader community. With the support of local voters through Measure LB, we have an opportunity to preserve that spirit and write a new chapter for Long Beach City College and the community we serve.”
“This groundbreaking marks a major step forward in how we support our student-athletes at Long Beach City College,” said Dr. Mike Muñoz, Superintendent-President of LBCC. “This new complex will give our students access to modern athletic and instructional spaces designed to support their success both in competition and in the classroom. What matters most is what our students will be able to accomplish here, and I look forward to seeing how this investment helps them reach their full potential.”
