The Aspen Institute College Excellence Program today announced that Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Interim Superintendent-President Dr. Mike Muñoz is one of 40 leaders selected for the 2021-2022 class of the Aspen Rising Presidents Fellowship, a highly selective national leadership program preparing the next generation of community college presidents to transform institutions to achieve higher and more equitable levels of student success.

Long Beach City College (LBCC) will give up to $1 million in Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding (HEERF) to help incentivize currently unvaccinated students to get fully vaccinated before the Fall 2021 semester begins on Mon., Aug. 30.
Dr. Lee Douglas Appointed As LBCC VP of Academic Affairs
Dr. O. “Lee” Douglas will return to Long Beach City College (LBCC) as the next Vice President of Academic Affairs, overseeing the College’s academic programs and deans. Douglas was confirmed by the Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Board of Trustees on June 23 and begins his new position today, Aug. 2.
LB College Promise Appoints Interim Director to Expand Student Experience
Elijah Sims will serve in this newly-created position
Longtime Long Beach resident Elijah Sims was recently appointed as the Interim Director of the Long Beach College Promise, the nation’s leading example of a seamless education from high school, free community college tuition, and guaranteed transfer to the local university.
The purpose of the new director position will be to strengthen the partnership between the five Long Beach College Promise institutions. Sims will:

Applications for Bona-Fide Tax Payers’ Association Member being accepted through Aug. 31
The Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Citizens’ Oversight Committee (COC), which oversees District bond projects, is seeking a new member to represent a Bona-Fide Tax Payers’ Association. Applications are being accepted through Aug. 31.
LBCC, Biden Administration and Costco Partner to Host Vaccination Clinics
In response to the Biden Administration’s outreach efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to all who are eligible, Long Beach City College (LBCC) has been selected to serve as a vaccination clinic location.
This summer, both campuses of LBCC will be host clinics. Costco pharmacies will administer the Pfizer vaccine to any individuals, age 12 and older. There are no restrictions on residency, and you don’t need to be a member of Costco to receive the vaccination.
