LBCC Announces Keynote Speaker for 2021 Virtual Commencement
Long Beach City College (LBCC) announced that Long Beach Mayor Dr. Robert Garcia will be the keynote speaker for the 2021 Commencement Ceremony.
Garcia has been a symbol of leadership and first-hand experience throughout the coronavirus pandemic this past year.
LBCC Athletics Program to Start In-Person Conditioning for Students
Long Beach City College announced on March 10 that conditioning classes for the Athletics program will resume in-person instruction for some sports on Mon., April 12. These classes are contingent on Los Angeles County being moved to the red tier of California’s reopening classification system and City of Long Beach’s Health Orders’ alignment with the State’s COVID-19 Guidelines for Higher Education.
The conditioning classes will be held outdoors and will practice all of the standard COVID-19 safety protocols that LBCC has implemented during the pandemic.
LBCCD Board of Trustees Appoints New Interim Superintendent-President
Current LBCC Vice President Dr. Mike Muñoz will begin March 4
During a Special Board of Trustees Meeting last night, March 2, the Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint current Long Beach City College Vice President of Student Services Dr. Mike Muñoz as the new Interim Superintendent-President.
Muñoz will begin his new role on March 4, 2021. His contract will end on June 30, 2022.
LBCCD Board of Trustees Announces Transition in Leadership
The Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees announced today that there will be a transition in leadership at Long Beach City College.
After much discussion, the Board of Trustees and Interim Superintendent-President Lou Anne Bynum could not come to a mutual agreement regarding the extension of her current contract which is set to expire on March 13, 2021.
Pending Board approval at the Special Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, March 2, the following appointments will be made:
LBCC Announces New Hall of Fame Inductees
An artistic director, a photographer, a musician, a civil servant, and an educator have been named as Long Beach City College’s 2020 Hall of Fame inductees, LBCC officials recently announced.
The 2020 Hall of Fame honorees are International City Theatre’s artistic director Caryn Desai; photographer Duke Givens; concert promoter/arts presenter John Malveaux; retired Long Beach Police Commander Charles Parks; and educator Cynthia Terry. Please click here for the full bios of the honorees.
Ntuk, Chico to lead LBCCD Trustees and Chico, Malauulu Sworn In
At its Annual Organization, Oath of Office, and Regular Session meeting on Monday, December 21, the Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Board of Trustees elected Uduak-Joe Ntuk as President of the LBCCD Board of Trustees, and new Trustee Herlinda Chico was elected Vice President. Chico was sworn-in to represent Area 4 of the College District, and Trustee Vivian Malauulu was sworn-in for her second term.
