LB College Promise Appoints Interim Director to Expand Student Experience

Longtime Long Beach resident Elijah Sims was recently appointed as the Interim Director of the Long Beach College Promise, the nation’s leading example of a seamless education from high school, free community college tuition, and guaranteed transfer to the local university.

LBCC, Biden Administration and Costco Partner to Host Vaccination Clinics

In response to the Biden Administration’s outreach efforts to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to all who are eligible, Long Beach City College (LBCC) has been selected to serve as a vaccination clinic location.

This summer, both campuses of LBCC will be host clinics. Costco pharmacies will administer the Pfizer vaccine to any individuals, age 12 and older. There are no restrictions on residency, and you don’t need to be a member of Costco to receive the vaccination.

LBCC Receives Historic $30 Million Gift From Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott
The College received the gift in support of LBCC’s equity and racial justice work

Long Beach City College (LBCC) received a tremendously generous gift of $30 million from author and philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. This is the single largest donation the College has received in its almost 95-year history, and one of the largest single-donor gifts given to a California Community College.

LBCC Hold Virtual Townhall on Helping Homeless Students

Long Beach Community College District Board of Trustees Dr. Virginia Baxter and Sunny Zia, and Interim Superintendent-President Dr. Mike Muñoz hosted a virtual event to launch Long Beach City College’s Helping Homeless Students Fund website and to discuss the Helping the Homeless Students Associate Group’s work on Tues., June 2.

Approximately one in six LBCC students experience homelessness or housing insecurity.

Port of LB Maritime Center at LBCC Recognized by U.S. Dept. of Transportation

The Port of Long Beach Maritime Center of Excellence at Long Beach City College received the designation as a 2021 Center of Excellence for Domestic Maritime Workforce Training and Education (CoE) from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD). LBCC is one of 27 community colleges and training institutions nationwide that prepare students for careers in the maritime industry.
