Computer Refresh
Introduction
The ITS Computer Refresh Program receives funds to replace out-of-warranty computers once every technology refresh cycle for the following employee types.
- One computer per permanent full-time district employee.
- Officially designated adjunct faculty offices.
The Computer Refresh Process
When a computer is ready to be installed, ITS creates a ticket for the recipient. When available, a technician will schedule a time to perform the install, help transfer files, and configure printers.
ITS e-wastes the computers that it replaces. Regardless of the funding source (grants excluded), staff must agree to relinquish the old equipment. ITS will not re-purpose out-of-warranty computers, or be held responsible for supporting them. If a department knowingly employs an out-of-warranty computer, and that computer poses a security risk, ITS reserves the right to confiscate it.
What the Program Does Not Cover
The program does NOT receive funds for the following resources; therefore, each area must plan and provide funding for them through its Department Plan.
Computers
- LTEs
- Student workers
- Contractors
- Operational or Department specific computers
- Indiscriminate adjunct faculty spaces
Accessories
- Printers
- Additional monitors
- Additional hard drives
- Additional RAM
- Additional cables
- etc
New Full-Time Instructional Faculty
Separate funds are provided to ITS to purchase computers for new full-time instructional faculty members.
Computer Choices
To leverage technology in the classroom, ITS offers laptops in place of desktop computers from both Apple and Dell. If a laptop is chosen, ITS will include a docking station, monitor, keyboard, and mouse to provide a more desktop-like experience in the office. If a department has computing needs that exceed the standard configuration, a business justification must be provided.
